One way to avoid getting a dirty look like that is to start on the side of the paper opposite of the hand – If you’re left handed, start on the right, and vice versa. The shading does look quite good since there seems to be a good contrast between light and dark, but the hard lines that define some of his features, like the nose, would look much better if the shading defined them. Also, it’s very important to have some shading and highlights to the hair. This is a rather minor tidbit, but when signing and naming pictures, it’s generally best to keep the text small so it doesn’t distract from the rest of the picture. All in all, nice work; keep it up!  | |
