| 30 Dec 2005 | Anonymous | I have been addicted to WICKED for a couple of years now. Compared to other musical productions, WICKED has found a way to touch so many of us, men and women alike, and has given a voice to those who are 'through with playing by the rules of someone else's game'...through accepting limits'! Danielle, you obviously have talent. Your portrait of Elphaba is a true work of art. But Danielle, you should have stopped after writing her name. The fact that you followed it with "The Delirious" ruins the authenticity of it. If you truly know Elphaba, you will be aware that she is not delirious. I started with the musical; I know it inside out. I read the book by Gregory Maguire. I am now reading Son Of A Witch, and I am perusing The Grimmerie. You should have done your homework. Here are synonyms for delirious: hallucinating, incoherent, rambling, confused. Elphaba knows what she has do to. She is in no way confused or bamboozled. She will challenge authority and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. The enemy managed to distort/destroy everything Elphaba stood for, everything she believed in; which is why, in the end, she declares "No good deed goes unpunished". She gave it her all; she exhausted herself and became dispirited trying to do the right thing. As she so explains to Glinda: "I’m limited…" She was judged, misjudged, belittled, deceived and betrayed by those who opposed her morals. Elphaba was many things embodied: beauty, brilliance, intensity, strength, integrity, justice, morality, kindness, empathy. But make no mistake; she was never delirious. | |
