FanArt: At the Pool

At first, I drew this just for the humorous juxtaposition of two distinctively nostalgic-yet-hip evil terrorists enjoying a relaxing day at the pool. Even as a responsible, taxpaying, grown-up male, I admit that even years and years after I first watched the G. I. Joe movies on our family's brand new VHS videocassette recorder, the voice of actress Morgan Lofting still makes me fall in love with her character... ...the Baroness. By the way, that's a Dragunov sniper rifle she's using. If that rifle sounds or looks familiar, it's probably because that's the same gun that came with the first generation 3 and 3/4 inch Cobra infantry figures. I searched on-line for the Cobra figure and for a close-up photo of the real-life Dragunov rifle. My favorite part of the picture is actually the way the wooden deck turned out. I almost forgot. I gave her that style of swimming suit because I don't draw many (any?) cheesecake drawings. I figured that the Baroness, regardless of whether she was supermodel skinny or slightly overweight, could get away with wearing it. What I really liked about the final version of this picture is that it reminds the viewer of Destro and the Baroness' long-term romantic relationship with one another. Their love and partnership with one another from year after year of being in the background of the G.I. Joe comics reminds me of Gomez and Morticia or Boris and Natasha. Plus, I love the irony of depicting an internationally wanted arms dealer, whose face is always obscured by an iron mask, swimming laps while his girlfriend is nearby getting a tan and shooting at someone. Meanwhile, we STILL can't see what his real face looks like!
