FanArt: Eragon and Saphira

Now, Eragon was not the most brilliant of novels, and it didn't make the greatest of movies. But, parts of that movie were very pretty, I have to admit, and not just the scenery, either XD. I drew this while watching the movie, and coloured it after. I haven't used coloured pencils in a while, so this was in excercise in colouring inside the lines :P. Saphira doesn't look much like Saphira in the movie, but I don't really care; she's not meant to. I've been told she looks very human. I was trying to draw Eragon as he was in the movie, but he came out looking like... maybe a very distant relative? The resemblence isn't all that great. I know Saphira's neck is flat; it's meant to be. Sorry for the grainyness.

Pencil, coloured pencil, May 2007.

No comments?! Well, then...first comment. First of all, I envy your skill with colored pencils. I never achieve the same excellent result. Secondly, I think you’ve mastered the curving of Saphira’s neck better than many are capable of. From my point of view, it really shows her affection for Eragon.

Only one criticism...Again it’s from my point of view, but Saphira does look a little too male to me. Considering she’s a reptilian it’s of course understandable.

Personally, I think she looks feminine enough for a great big reptile, but of course everybody’s allowed to have an opinion."

That’s an interesting decision you made, making her neck flat... why did you do it?

16 Margaret Perrie replies: "It was supposed to be a stylised background-type-thing, but the coloured pencil sort of killed that idea, I guess."

Nice pic, but Eragon is supposed to have brown hair. I like Saphira’s eye!!!!
