I think everyone out there has a different image of what a pheonix looks like - from eagle-like to pheasant-like to what appear to be flaming chickens (or at least that's the most common description I hear artists give to their pheonixes!). Maybe it was the influence from the American cover of The Chamber of Secrets (done by Mary GrandPre), but somehow this is what I always envisioned when Fawkes was described.
My beloved 6B pencil (& kneaded eraser and paper stub), tinted and smudged in Photoshop.
