FanArt: Morpheus

If I could choose one literary character to love, it would definitely be Morpheus, aka Dream of the Endless, the main character in Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.  For some reason, dark, brooding, angsty guys tend to attract me, and Dream definitely falls within all those categories.  I first became intrigued by him after reading Endless Dreams (I read the books totally out of order, depending on what was available in the library), then completely fell in love with Yoshitaka Amano's rendition in The Dream Hunters, which was surprising for me, since I was never a fan of Amano's Final Fantasy illustrations.

The biggest problem I had with the books, though, was that I didn't like the art style of the vast majority of them.  So here is my own version of Dream, standing in his gallery.  I left Destruction's sigil in the frame because, like Dream, I hope he will return to his realm some day.

I love Dream too. I know he's horrible and such at times (Nada, anyone?), but there is something about his character that I love. I think that maybe I like him because he is not perfect, he does have bad faults and he is terribly proud, but towards the end, he learns and tries to rectify them, to some extent. I like Daniel, but I won't lie and say I didn't feel upset when Dream... well, if you've read it you'll know.

I like the style of this - and I know what you mean about some of the art forms used, I really did not like the first one's style - bcause I think you've captured his character very well, the sort of brooding, meticulous figure passes through in it. The only thing I have a troyuble with is the legs - they seem a little too thin, even for the way he is standing. But I do like this picture. I'm also loving the fact that he's almost blocking Desire's symbol in the pictute - intentional?

I agree that what makes Dream so awesome is that he has flaws, but changes throughout the series. One of my favorite scenes was in The Kindly Ones (incidentally, one of the few books where I loved the art) is when he and Death are sitting together, and he hands her a loaf of bread to throw at him.
Thanks for your compliments on the picture! I'm glad a fellow Sandman reader approves of it. 2 "
