FanArt: Ghost Godzilla

If there's one thing about the wacky world of Japanese monsters I really like are the more obscure aspects of it. And there's nothing more obscure then monster movies that never were. Films and creature concepts that came very close to being produced before the cameras, but for one reason or another, got canceled and never did. Sometimes these unused ideas were more interesting and would have been a better substitutes for the films that where eventually made. Such as the case with 1991s 'Mothra vs. Bagan' a truly ambitious Asian monster movie that was canceled and later rewritten as the far less ambitious and fairy mediocre 'Godzilla Vs Mothra' (1992 version). But on the other half, these ideas can also be rather ridiculous and understandable why they never made it, like 1978s never-to-be supernatural epic 'Godzilla vs. The Devil' (yes, the prince of darkness himself). The character of Ghost Godzilla, from the 1994 unmade project 'Godzilla vs. Godzilla' sort of hovers between these two extremes. The planned story was to have the murderous ghost of the original 1954 Godzilla materialize and battle the living and not so evil Godzilla of the 90s series of films (dubbed the Heisei series (1984-1995)) and later gain a physical for in the final battle. Hence the title, 'Godzilla vs. Godzilla'. However, coming off of the heels of 1993's 'Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II' and the following year's 'Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla' Toho Productions, the home of Godzilla, decided that three movies in a role with their kaiju hero fighting 'pseudo-zillas' was a bit outrageous, so instead they opted for 'Godzilla vs. Destroyah' where the Big G took on a mutation born from the only weapon that had ever successfully killed him, the dreaded Oxygen Destroyer, also from the original 1954 film. The image below is my own interpretation of the unmade kaiju, since no real production art was made for Ghost Godzilla.
