FanArt: TARDIS

The TARDIS form BBC's long running Doctor Who. The word TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Distance In Space. This is an old sketch orignally a practice in vanising points and perspective.

14 Shelz Keast replies: "Thanks, but there are other Doctor Who pieces out there, just might take a while to find though."

The thing about this is that the blue police box was fairly common in London when the show first came out, but now it's something that would attract attention. Kinda like telephone booths in New York City. Love the piece, and I love the show.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "Yeah they are obsolete now. I think they when that way after a few years of the show. They should have one left, just for the tourists. And the extremly gullible 12"

This makes me miss geometry.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "It is very grometric, however I've always prefered algebra."

I love the Dr.Who shows! They have new ones playing every friday night, TONIGHT, at seven here in in the US of A.

They don't show it anymore here in America, at least not where I'm located, but I remember Dr.Who when I was a kid. I saw it for the first time back in 1970. I was only 6 years old at the time.

You did the drawing of the TARDIS pretty accurately, but you made a mistake in the bio on what the acronym means. It's Time and Relative Dimensions in Space. I remember an old episode where the Doctor slipped sideways in time into a parallel Universe and he explained how the TARDIS was dimensionally transcendental because it occupied five spatial dimensions. That property is why it was bigger on the inside yet appeared small on the outside.

Just a little trivia for you. ;-)

14 Shelz Keast replies: "Whoops- why I wrote Distance instead of Dimensions I can't say. It will be corrected. That episode you mentioned, was the doctor's companion called Romana? Did the Doctor pick up a character called Adric there? I've watched most of the episodes, except of course those which were lost, but I can't quite place that story. Now for my bit of Trivia- only one of the Doctor's companions dies, Adric. Also at one stage the Doctor was travelling with only a guy as a companion- no women!"

"I feel I need to correct you. Baker was not the first doctor filmed in colour, John Pertwee who came before him, was."

I knew that. ;-) I was just mentioning that he was one of the Doctors that was filmed in color. I haven't seen every single episode of the series because the broadcasters here kept the show only based on ratings. Sometimes the show would move to another station and I would miss some episodes in the process. :-P

The last episodes I saw were made in the early 1990s. Is it still being made or did the Doctor finally retire? They did make a TV movie here based on the story back in the late 90s.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "I *think* that the last episode of the old series was made in 1989, not quite sure though. I don't know how long it took before it was screened in America though. I know that American shows srceen somthing like 1 and a half years behind America nowdays.Any way you must have heard about the new Doctor Who shows with Eccleston and some other guy (my memory for actors is appauling, I don't know the difference between Nicole Kidmen and Angelina Jolie. This is a rhetorical statement.) as Doctor's. I think they're up to season three now. Well in Britan atleast."

To answer your question: No, Romana joined the Doctor later in the series when the Doctor was played by actor Tom Baker. That was also when the show went color.

The episode I'm referring to was much older. When the series first started it was filmed in Black and White. The episode where the Doctor slipped sideways in time was one of the older B&W ones.

One of my favorite episodes was when the Doctor encountered the "Eternals". A race that existed outside of time.

Another thing I found interesting about the story was that the Galifreyans went through 12 regenerative life times before they finally died. It kind of reminded me of the Hindu belief of re-incarnation.

I find it interesting how the writers of science fiction tend to draw upon old beliefs for their stories.

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "I feel I need to correct you. Baker was not the first doctor filmed in colour, John Pertwee who came before him, was. Not all the Pertwee episode were in colour, and they did revert back to black and white for a while.I don't remember the 'Eternals' one though. If timelords go thorough twelve regenerations then there can only be another two incarnations of the Doctor, what a shame. However in one of the Baker episodes several other, older, incarnations of the Doctor where shown, albeit brifly, so it is quite possible the Doctor should really be on his last life. Hmmm. "

Yup, season 3 just finished. Shame the new ones aren't anywhere as good as the old ones. Can't beat Patrick Trouton (sp) ^_^

:-) Shelz Keast replies: "'Tis indeed a shame. But the new ones aren't necesarily worse, just different. (Too sentimental for me, though that hasn't stopped me watching). John Pertwee was my favourite of the old doctors. I missed most of Trouton's episodes (ingoring the fact that most were lost to a fire)"

I see the Master has stolen the top and flashing lights... The best Doctor who never was was the great Lenny Henry with flashing red and green lights on the outside of the tardis. Fighting the evil Thatchos.. Work that one out.

16 Shelz Keast replies: "Okay, I'll try to work it out....Not from any of the books perchance?"
