FanArt: Steve the Wraith

This is a portrayal of myself as a Wraith from the TV show "StarGate: Atlantis".

For those of you who are not familiar with the show it is a spin-off of the first StarGate series. In one of the earlier episodes the Atlantis team captured a Vampire-like creature called a Wraith. During the interogation the Wraith refused to reveal his true name so Major Sheppard named him "Steve".

I thought that was funny because my name is also "Steve". But then I got an inspiration to make myself appear as a Wraith. I recently obtained Photoshop as a gift from a friend of mine and I decided to try it out while creating this portrait. I took a photo of myself snarling and used that as my base for this portrait. I also took photos of my cats and used the eyes from one of them. All the other effects were created using Photoshop.

Since this is my first attempt at using Photoshop I know that the image has flaws. The hair is not exactly the way I wanted it, but most of the shading and colors came out pretty good.

I open to critiques as long as it is objective and constructive. I won't be altering this image but any suggestions will be considered for future works using Photoshop.

All reference photos were taken by me. No screenshots from the TV show were used.

If you want you could check out deviantart.com, it has a search bar where you could type photoshop tutorials, that's where I found a tutorial I'm using now. I've never seen stargate before but the picture looks really good

1 Steven P. Love replies: "Thanks. Some of the paint tools and filters were pretty easy to use because they're similar to the GIMP and my other program 'Microsoft Picture It'. But some other tools I'm still learning and it'll probably take me a while even with tutorials. I was kind of a late bloomer when it came to digital art. I didn't even know what it was until I tried it for the first time 3 years ago. It took me two years to refine my skills with GIMP and 'Microsoft Picture It'. And they're more primitive programs compared to Photoshop. So I'll probably be learning for quite a while. But hopefully my prior experience with the other programs will enable me to accellerate that process."

Scarry!
Noticed that the wraith actually have two slits on their cheecks? (I'm a stickler for details)
Does any one else find it odd that the wraith speakk English? I mean, their galaxy has been isolated from ours for what, 2000 years? It's the same in every sci-fi show, though they do normaly have and excuse, i.e universal translators or TARDIS's.
Anyies- Atlantis is my favourite of the stargates.

1 Steven P. Love replies: "  According to the story the Ancient Atlantians fled the Pegasus Galaxy 10,000 years ago. On the issue of all of the races, and the Wraith, speaking english that was brought up on the show's official website too. The producers of the show say that having them all speak english was more for convenience and keeping the show within the time constraints of production. Having the different races speak different languages just was not practical. At least the written languages are different. There were several episodes in which Dr. McKay bragged about his language tranlation Algorithm used to translate the Ancient and Wraith written languages. Thanks again for visiting."
