FanArt: Superman

Done in ink when I was 15 or so. I just threw a colored background so it wouldn't be so bright

No comments yet!? BOY, I would think there would at least be 5 comments on this pic! YES! My fav. superhero! Great job! It must've taken you a while to get this complete!

The wrists are far to curved and excruciatingly anatomically incorect. The muscles on the sides of his abdomen are far too prominent, and his pose looks very fake and uncomfortable-hardly the way Super man would pose to strike a sense of intimidation in his foes. It really looks like you tried too hard, and instead, kind of ruined the look and feeling of the picture. Don't get me wrong, it's good to look at first glance, but when you look at it for more then a second, the flaws stick out like red sore thumbs. I would have expected more shine and a look of leather smooth material in his cape- it's really bland how you didn't add more shades of coloring, when the rest of him had radiant highlights. He also looks rather clueless, and you have his hips, legs, and abdominal sides WAY out of proportion, which seems to be rather important in Marvel/Super man comic style... You need a lot of work. But hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you suck- this is a lot better than most people can do. Of coarse, I don't know how long you've been drawing this style, so I may not be one to judge. To make my point more accurate, if you've been studying and drawing the Marvel way for a little bit, to a couple of weeks or months, or maybe a year, you're doing ok (if you weren't drawing extensively for years before). However, if you've been drawing Marvel style for a long time (years), than I'm sorry to say that you're kinda... well, it's sad, really. I mean, anyone who's a fav of drawing Marvel comics (for a long time) should at least be a master (or knowledgeable) about anatomy and the correct structure of the body, because this style is very concerned with that. Of coarse, one may argue that Marvel style is a little out of proportion and stretched, but even then, you're pushing it WAY to far. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing you, I'm just giving you a full, frontal view as to how I see this. I don't know how you take constructive criticism, but if you don't take it well, try not to take it so hard, OK?

:-) Barry T. Schutza replies: "Whoa! I had no idea there were so many rules to hobby drawing 12. Of course you know the abstract/comic style is what I was shooting for 10. Thank you- I consider it a compliment to have spent so much time on me, never seen such a long posting. "

That Lady Artist's a whack. And Superman's not even in the Marvel universe, he's from DC.

Fantastic piece! Bring on more Superheroes!
