FanArt: Wookiee

This one is supposed to be Lowbacca, nephew to the late Chewie. Poor guy. Lost his uncle when a friggin' moon crashed into the planet. Anyway... I tried something new with this one. I didn't do any pre-drawing setups, I just started with two eyes and one mouth, then laid in every individual hair one by one. It took a really long time, and I think it turned out pretty well since when I drew it I wasn't too good at drawing. As usual, I'd appreciate comments and constructive criticism.

Cute!
My nose is the favorite part as it has the most depth to it; you have obvious shading and then the white highlight. The rest of the face lacks that same form. It looks as if the hair is simply apart of the page and not part of a head. You might want to do some darker shadows on the left side (working off the directional lightsource you established by the nose), add highlights in the eyes in approx. the same location that the nose has it, and lighten up on the right side, as well as lightening the protruding areas (over the brows, bridge of the nose, cheekbones, chin, lips) and darkening the recesses (eyes and under chin).
All this criticism probably doesn't help your esteem about the image, I apologize! I just get a bit carried away 12 There is a great likeness, and again the nose is just flawless....nice work!

:-) Flint ´Sparky´ Garrabrant replies: "Nah, no harm done. You're just saying the shading in the nose should be continued throughout the work. And you're right, of course. It could use better overall shading. Thank you for the comment, Lauren."

Oh my...every single hair? Gaah! Okay. But I like it, all furry, makes me want to hug him. I like the look on his face, the "I'm innocent and nice, don't hurt me", or something like that. I don't know who his uncle is, haven't heard of him actually. My brother has got the three last Star Wars movies so i have watched them like a thousand times! My boyfriend is even worse, he knew ALL the lines! Hehe, very cute picture.

:-) Flint ´Sparky´ Garrabrant replies: "Yeah, not too many people know who Lowie is. You'd have to read the Young Jedi Knights Series. But you don't know Chewie? Chewbacca?! Han Solo's big walking carpet of a sidekick? Whoa, that's odd. Hehe, and your boyfriend sounds cool. We both know all the words to the movies. Anyway, thanks for the comment. "

Every single hair? Oh lordy I wouldn't have the patience! REAL nice eyes. Love 'em!

:-) Flint ´Sparky´ Garrabrant replies: "I probably wouldn't have the patience for it either, but I zoned out and talked to people while I was making lines on the paper. That made things easier. ^_^ And thank you, the eyes were the part I shaped the rest of the picture around."
