FanArt: TF02: MudslingerAs a TF fan, I have a major pet peeve... I hate fembots. First off, I don't see the logic in having gendered machines. Secondly, they're too feminine. What especially bugs me is when people design their own 'sexy' female TF's and draw them basically as if they were naked human women with a few boxes stuck to them. Argh! So anyway, this is Mudslinger, the butch fem-bot! It's a character concept a friend came up with... a TF prematurely thrust into earth of the early 20th century, whose alternate mode was a WWI tank. The idea is that she takes an unknowing British tank crew under her wing, and develops a strong maternal instinct towards them. My friend nicknamed her 'Mum'. I did this pic in a small notepad with a cheap pencil while waiting in line for a movie, and it's paradoxically probably my favourite TF drawing to date... a fembot, no less! :) | |
 | | | | | Date | Name | Comment | | | 16 Feb 2003 | Bill | I have been reading about some stuff on TF Genders and there's one particular view that seems okay with me, however flawed it is.(Then again .. is there anything in the TF universe when it comes to continuity or story lines that isn't flawed?) After spending more time with humans, the Transformers came to understand the differences between human genders, and simply adopted the gender their personality seemed to match most. The fact that the "female" Transformers have somewhat feminine shapes is thus purely coincidental, and perhaps a reason a particular Transformer might identify itself as female. Generalizing the male physique as more "rugged," the same is true for the "male" Transformers. http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~sstoneb/tf/techfaq.txt Maybe Mudslinger here Adopted the Female Gender due to her crew calling her Mum or Mother all the time(Mother being her type of Tank. Mark I "Mother") and then linking those words to female.. blahblahblah.. I still like the picture.. you should shoot it through photoshop or paintshop to get some gnarly colours on it though! Zachariah Campbell replies: "Sounds mostly good to me, man. I mean, if you need to come up with a reason to explain "female" TF's, this one works. She started as YOUR character concept, so I'm glad you like it, Bill. I'm kind of partial to the black and white version of this, but nothing to lose by trying out some PS colouring, I guess... watch this spot. " | |
| 16 Feb 2003 | Trent Drake | Now this just rules. I never realized how much I have wanted to see a hulking, boxy, butch femme Transformer until right this second. You're brilliant, man. Half the credit goes to the guy who initially made this character... I guess we kind of collaborated. But yeah, as I said, I'm kind of against fembots, but if I wasn't, I'd definitely want to see more like this. | |

| 1 Sep 2003 | Anonymous | Oh silly bois. ;o) Extra parts can be stowed in sub space for either robot or alt mode, and the only female TF with clearly defined human shaped 'boobs' was Black Arachnia. Hell, Springer has one of the biggest 'chests' in the universe. P I see complaints about 'breasts', but I never notice any complaints about Optimus Primes unexplained blue, boxy 'cod piece'. It certainly serves no purpose other than accentuate his gender design 'maleness'. ;o) Zachariah Campbell replies: "Well, yeah... I guess TFs generally are masculine by default, though their humanoid form is still mostly informed by function... vehicle parts and so on. Inarguably, the female TF's are far more identifiably anthropomorphized as curvey, dainty human-like females, moreso than any comparable masculine gendering on "male" TFs.I don't know any men who resemble Shockwave or Brawl, but every female TF is "girly". I think that's kind of lame. At least on GO-BOTS the female and male-identified robots were completely indistinguishable, which was actually kind of cool. However, I was griping mainly about the plethora of fan-designed fembots out there. As for Prime's codpiece, what can I say except that the animators added that; it wasn't a feature of the original toy. Prime probably is the most masculinized TF I think, what with his "pecs and abs". And finally... subspace is a monstrous cop-out, mostly to excuse lazy animators. I don't buy it. After all, if subspace is so great, why should any TF look -anything- like their alt mode at all? " | |
