FanArt: Nauticon1: DreadnoughtA friend of mine and I came up with a concept for a squad of nautical transforming robots, bad guys, and I did the illustrations. I tentatively named them the Nauticons. Generally, I didn't do the vehicle modes because, well... hey, it's a boat. What's so cool about drawing that? :) I did work out all the transformations though, so all of these guys work hypothetically. Dreadnought here is the hulking squad leader, who through the magic of transformer displacement of mass, turns into a battleship. He's your generic military-minded bad-ass. Also, I'm on a '50's deco kick right now, so all of these guys are done all graphic, on funky colour backgrounds. :) | |
 | | | | | Date | Name | Comment | | | 23 Oct 2002 | Trent Drake | Like something out of my nightmares, back when I was way too into 1943 on my NES. Generally pretty good, and I love all the little cannons on his legs. It lends him a certain amount of badness. I'm a bit confused about his shoulders, tho. They seem to taper into a prow-looking thing and that seems a bit wimpy, somehow. I'll not comment on the name 'Nauticons." I am curious, tho, were they meant to join together into a giant robot? Zachariah Campbell replies: "They were indeed... I'll post his pic soon, I guess, just for the sake of completeness. I half agree about the shoulders. They could stand to be a bit chunkier, but while I like my TFs' transformations to be functional, I still allow that there can be a bit of artistic license and distortion between modes. Not sure if you can tell, but his battleship mode would actually be flat-bottomed... I guess in recognition of how the "toy" would have to be built. " | |
| 15 Dec 2002 | Wondering fighter | dude this guy has to be optimus's long lost cousin or something and man imagine a sailor during WW2 seeing this guy pop out of the water O.o anyways another awesome transformerHeh heh heh... now that's a fun image. Yeah, he has that same "masked" look that OP and so many other TF's had. I dunno... I think it makes him look badass. The question is, is the vaguely "naval cap" shaped head too much? | |
| 21 Jun 2003 | Anonymous | I think the naval cap thing is pretty cool, makes him really stand out among other TFs when you consider the most they had going for them was either a small crest on their head or antenna's or something or other, and the face mask does make him look badass *thumbs up* Zachariah Campbell replies: "Hey, thanks... the "cap" motif is tricky, because it can seem really stupid if it's too blatant, but otherwise, it can give a character a distinctive look or flavour.Of course I'm still amazed at how many TF faces I can recognize just from the basic elements alone. They aren't distinguished that much, and yet, somehow it's all filed away in my mind. Scary. " | |
| 16 Mar 2004 | Bill | Seaquest?? Argh!! wimpy name.. The Gestalts original name was Tsunami.. He carries a huge energon net and a trident as well!! But that's just me.. Anybody interested.. I have all their tech specs and quotes and notes somewhere.. Zachariah Campbell replies: "SeaQuest?? NO! Read it again, dude... SeaQUAKE!!Which is a considerably less wimpy name for a combiner I think, and is spiritually similar to the meaning of "tsunami". I actually renamed the gestalt form because I didn't want to use a culture-specific name like Tsunami, especially for a combiner like that. It's just not a very G1 TF name. It'd be like naming, uh... a bicycle TF "TourDeFrance" or something... uh... yeah... right. Ahem. " | |
