Fantasy Art Tutorials in the FARP Section

Mixed media, markers and pencils, Take 2 (Page 1/3)

By :-) Liz Chesterman

Working with various markers and pencils can give interesting effects to your images. Here's just one example of working in this type of mixed media, page 1. (page 2) (page 3)

(The featured character Waspinator is copyright Mainframe Entertainment, Inc.)

I start with a quick sketch in Photoshop. I'll worry about transferring the design to paper later.

Then I went ahead and added some details, changing his positioning a little more.

I changed the position a bit, getting Waspy more centered on the page. I like the arm posiions much more in this one as well.

This is about the final here. I want to correct some details, so I do one more sketch.

Final sketch, with previous underneath on a lowered opacity.

Sketching on the computer is nice because it's so easy to make changes or edits without wasting supplies.

The final sketch, with the colors I'll be using for a background. Again, I want simple colors, because I'm going to be doing alot of work on the figure.

So how did you transfer your computer sketch onto paper? Great artwork btw.

:-) Liz Chesterman replies: "I made a print on computer paper then used a light table to lightly sketch an outline."

Good and very detailed discriptions. It would be great if you could do some instructions for example human skin and hair. You got some talent. Keep it up!

Man I love that show. I think he is the best character in beast wars. Anyways I am really impressed and I think you are a better artist than even I am.
