A detailed sketch of Beleg and a draft of Mablung

The final sketch of Beleg, now also in the posture he is going to have in the picture.

A draft of Mablung (the chief captain of Doriath), who is going to be kneeling beside Beren's head. Again in different postures. "I had never drawn or painted Mablung before, and to be honest: I had no actual idea of his face. But I had always imagined him to have light hair (it is questionable if this is right for a Sindar, but I'd like to let myself in for a discussion). His face should also contain a certain amount of strictness and clearly express grief and depression. A problem was created through the position of his head. It was not easy for me to decide to which degree he should lower his head - that's why there are so much sketches. I also worried, that his face would become to feminine because of the long hair. I was able to cope a little bit with that with the colour when I painted."

30 Oct 2003	Iris compiet	Loading... This has to be one of the best I've read in months. I myself try to do some watercolor but don't succeed very much. I seem to smudge and smear. Sometimes, occasionaly there is one which succeeds but the rest is crap. Now I know a different way of working I'll give it a try. Hope to show the result soon. Thanks for teaching.
