Painting the Elements
Table of Contents | back | forward
Painting the Elements was a lot of fun. I was looking forward to this piece largely because it was going to push me with a few aspects. I had always been intimidated by waterscapes and waves so I looked forward to that challenge in particular.
As in all other cases, I built things up in layers. I used my bristle brush to lay in basic values and then built increasing detail on top of that. The element that involved the most layers was the forest. That one was a lot of fun to paint also. The skull was a pretty lengthy study session of a skull in one of my anatomy books. The embryo was based largely on the position of one photo but the colors of another.
