SciFi and Fantasy Stories: Wartime Lovers (poem)

The sentence of lengthy existence is lightened
In the presence of death, our passion is heightened
The war at our feet, gives us cause to move towards
but what will become of our love afterwards?

When the wheatfields are bloody, and the dragon is slain
when we no longer fear all our lives are in vain
Will you steal a soft kiss, and pretend it's our last?
Can it's sweetness suffice to drown out the past?

If the call of new battles weakens desire
will you ride to the East, to fight a new fire?
I can't help but muse, where next you'll be drawn
when there aren't any stones left, to bruise your heart on

If there's nothing for me to console you for
I fear I won't know how to act anymore
So hold me for now, while we fight off the sorrow
and pray that we survive another tomorrow
