SciFi and Fantasy Stories: A Veroshi Hymn

This is just something I wrote in about an hour. It's supposed to be a Veroshi hymn, translated from the original language. Maybe this won't make sense to anyone who hasn't read my Grebsa stories yet, but here we go.

O Sing of the Mighty Grebsa!
Sure of flight, quick to strike,
Hear him roar, see him soar!
Why does he fight?
What will he prove with claw and tooth?

O Sing of a Grebsa's Heart!
Keep it strong with our song,
Worship him, dance for him.
He fights for us,
For he loves us, the Veroshi!

O Sing of the Grebsa's Bane!
Does Man care for his nair1?
No, for he would kill these!
Why must he fight?
Why do humans kill their sons?

O Sing of the Grebsa's Pain!
Human kin, rebel kin,
Fallen gods, give up sins!
Put aside your hate,
Be one with your Grebsa brothers!

O Sing of a Grebsa's Love!
Equals we shall soon be,
For our faith shall be truth,
Even humans
Shall greet their kin from mind to mind!

This does look a lot like a hymn, and I love the flow through the hymn.

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Thanks!"

Beautiful. I'd love to hear the music that this would be sung to 1

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Yeah. Unfortunately, I'm no good at writing music. Maybe if I could find someone to do it..."

They really do love their 'gods' don't they.

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Yeah, they do. The poor Grebsas are such reluctant gods."

I think it is an effective piece showing a very strong traditional vibe to the people who sing it. Probably something passed through many decades and generations. It has a nice, trumpet-strewn vibe to it. I'm sure it's seen its share of parading and festivals.

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Thanks, I'm glad you like it!"

Heidi, that's BEAUTIFUL! It's such a sweet little comprisal of how the Veroshi view thier benefactors. Lovely!

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Thanks, Mandy!"

I like it, I can picture a group of people chanting it... neat. Really rhythmic and the rhyming is great, too. This is nifty!

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Thanks! The Mods seem to be sitting on my new ticket which has two more poems in it (grr). I'm just glad people like this one."

Great Hymn! I really like the visualizations that it creates. It also shows many different sides of Grebsa. One moment Grebsa is ready to strike out, powerful, and almost fearful, however, in the next verse they sing of Grebsa as loving and kind, protective of the one thing that matters most to everyone; family. I have to put this to music sometime. 19pens up music composition software:

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Heh, I guess somebody has to put it to music. I'm no good at it. I did try to show all the sides of the Grebsa. They're strong, but they're also terrified of losing the one thing that means anything to them and that terror drives them to do things they might not otherwise. Thanks for reading!"

Nice hymn, with a rhythm in it. Indeed, a good idea if you could have it put into a song.

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "Thanks!"

It does read very nicely. It also reads like any one of the Psalms from the Bible.

:-) Heidi Hecht replies: "I never thought of it being like a Psalm. But that's cool."
