Prologue :Fade

"Today, all the capsules will be deactivating stasis, in case one of you forgot." Cindy was wired to the main terminal, and many menus were appearing and disappearing just above it in rapid succession. The other five were patiently awaiting what was to come, and were helping keep an eye on things from the lesser terminals on the bridge. Andrew, though mostly recovered from his obssession, still couldn't help but look at the only inhuman person on the ship with a mother. Cindy took due notice of this. "We should all get to work on making sure their vital signs are balanced."

"No, Vincent. Vince! Just look," Lorenzo was having difficulty explaining the sensor interface, "all you have to do is select these regions... then the bio... and go through this menu to select the next colonist. It's very simple!"

"Ooh! Look at this guy. Don't you think he's cute?" Karina was getting bored of the check-ups, and decided to pull Gennifer in for a distraction.

"I guess so. He's probably got a girlfriend though." Gennifer showed little interest in human boys at the time.

"You're hopeless." Karina was even getting tired of her procrastinations now, and decided to get back to work.

They continued monitering the colonists as the stasis was slowly deacitvated. In a couple minutes, cindy spoke again.

"You guys should be okay now. I'm heading to the stasis hall to welcome everyone to conscoiusness. In a minute or so, you should go back to your quarters." Cindy wheeled off the bridge and into a lift. She readjusted herself as it made its way to the stasis hall. Once it stopped, she inevitably got into the hall in about a minute. At the entrance she waited a few more minutes.

A very soft tone signalled the completed process of taking the colonists out of stasis. After 10 seconds, every chamber slowly unlocked, almost in perfect synchronization. An announcement sounded overhead, in the original computer's voice as opposed to the captain's.

"All crew please report to quarters and prepare for landing. All officers ranking higher than E please report to the bridge."

An odd sense of waking and commuting took place. Some people were waking from their long rests, the others continued onto their stated destinations as though this were a daily occurance. The droid was greeting as many as possible.

But the one who wasn't at all human and had been monitered so intently, was ironically in complete privacy of detailed observation. She seemed a little saddened, though a little hopeful of the possible outcomes from landing on the next world. So she walked with her mother towards into a hallway, towards a lift to their left. They, six other colonists, and a B rank officer filed into the lift as it arrived, and the colonists entered their coordinates of their quarters. The officer typed in his passcode to access the bridge, but when Alexandria's mother began entering in her quarters, the officer hit the "cancel input" button.

"I just received orders to escort you to the bridge." The officer looked at her sternly. She looked down and stepped back, though his otherwise kind face wasn't very threatening. The lift stopped, and 4 colonists got off- but not before casting final curious glances at Alexandria, and the leathery wings visible over her shoulders. At least they're not so hostile any more... pondered
