<-- Personal smiley...
Not much to say about me... I'm 17, half (Italian)Swiss, half South African; Christian, living in Taiwan, 'missionary kid', pacifist, environmentalist, rather old-fashioned... As concerns my writing, I've been scribbling since I was four. I write to learn or find answers for myself, but also to think about how others would feel in particular situations. I write fantasy because I'm too busy with school (AHEM. Correction: too lazy) to do research on real things, and basing stories on my own life has never worked out so far. (I'm trying, though :P) As for my stories... My poetry can be divided into three categories: humorous / silly (Princess Chicken and Writer's Night), sad (Merina's Lament) or religious (on Fictionpress). I tend to not write poetry much. It either comes to me by itself, or not at all. Shorter works are Trust in Me, The Outcasts, The Last Elf, Funeral, the Werethings series, The Promise and... wait, I think that's all. They are either funny, religious or snippets from longer works. Usually. My long stuff is at permanent risk of being ditched (classic example is At the End of Broken Dreams, though I'm trying to continue it), but Love your Enemies is semi-complete by now, if you don't mind reading the scrappy version while I snail my way through the rewrite. Its sequel, The Last will be First, is slow but it will definitely come along - the only problem is that its rate of continuation depends on my work on the LyE rewrite. So the reason why it's so painfully slow is because the rewrite is so painfully slow too =P Things that influence my writing are often books, movies, music, and whatever I'm learning in school at the moment, or, very often, things that make me really mad or unhappy, for some reason. o.O Recent News: (April 08)
- There's a new Love your Enemies illustration by Katarina V. Baralic (do look at the rest of her gallery, it's awesome) right here. ^_^ Yayness!!

- Chapter 5 and 6 of the LyE rewrite is in progress, but my holidays are over and I'll have to start studying for exams, so it will take me a while to get anything done...

- Ruhan is currently going on my nerves, because her story never feels right. I wasn't happy with the first three chapters, I took them down, I sat down to start the story differently, and I decided I liked the first version better after all. *grumbles* Anyhow, I'm rather stuck (I tend to be bad with beginnings), so it might take a while... AGAIN.

- The Werethings may be back sometime soon in a third story! ^_^ Expect it around the beginning of May or so... it shouldn't take me long. (Cecy is so much better behaved than Ruhan. :P)

Interests Writing (of course), drawing (sometimes), reading (A LOT), knitting, jewellery-making, cross-stitch, book-binding, playing the flute, learning languages, discussing religious questions, Theology, History, mission, cats (mine is the cutest!! ^^)... Favorite Fantasy/Scifi Movies and TV Shows I tend to not watch TV at all, and as concerns fantasy, my favourite is definitely "The Lord of the Rings", though I haven't watched much else fantasy... In general, I like (anti-)war movies, movies based on books (mainly classics), historical movies, and others... I like international movies, actually - Italian, Iranian, Indian, African, French... ^_^ (with subtitles, of course) Favorite Fantasy/Scifi Books Definite favourites are J.R.R. Tolkien's works and "The Chronicles of Narnia". I don't read much else fantasy, actually, but I love futuristic books, e.g. "1984", "The Lake at the End of the World", "The Handmaid's Tale", and some others. Favorite Music I've already said I'm old fashioned ;) My very favourites are classical music (especially religious or Requiems), movie soundtracks (especially LOTR, Cry Freedom), international (Middle Eastern / Indian / Greek / African / Italian), some musicals (Les Miserables, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music), and and and =P Also crossover, Japanese/Chinese pop music (to a certain extent), some Western modern music, and hymns (teehee~). When it comes to playing music, though, I stick to Baroque - that's easier than most anything else =P |

| 22 Mar 2008 | Samantha ´Samii´ Baugus | I really like LyE!!!! I read the whole thing in just a few days! It was awsome, the idea was so original. My friend (who is reading over my shoulder) said that elves were peaceful people, but I really enjoyed the change of scenerey! Cirion ROX!!!!!!!! He is so cool! Sorry ’bout that, I just like that character. Désirée Ruth Dippenaar replies: "Why, thank you~ hehe, I’m glad you like Cirion. I actually didn’t know much about him until I was about half-way though with writing; I just couldn’t decide whether he should be a "good guy" or a liar ;P Glad he turned out fine though! Sometimes I’m very bad at characterising; some of my characters change in every chapter!" | |
| 26 Mar 2008 | Jeroen ChristianCreature Vercruysse | OMG OMG OMG the storys of Ruhan go on??????? wow tahts like woooooooooooooooooow Désirée Ruth Dippenaar replies: "Yup, there’s a sequel - it’s all planned out already, but it’s taking me forever to write up. Three chapters are here already, but I’ll be taking them off because I have to fix some things still..." | |

It’s gone. Not there. Missing. poof. (And now I feel sad. it’s one of my favorites.)
Oh, okay then. Thanks for telling me. Shall read the updated version when it returns. ^_^ Désirée Ruth Dippenaar replies: "Awww sorry!!! I took it down to revise it a bit... it should be back soon... I’m not giving up on it, don’t worry " | |

| 3 May 2008 | Liz ´the'leasel´ Verde | DESIIREEEEEEEE! *GLOMP* I’m back for the summer! Yay! So excited to be able to have time to talk to everyone again! I’ve missed you lots! What have you been up to? How’s school? Désirée Ruth Dippenaar replies: "Hello!! ^_^ Yay you’re back!
I’ve been up to nothing exactly (I guess I have semi-permanent writer’s block), though I’m trying to get some short stories done... just writing too much at the same time, which hinders everything. School is tiring; I have all kinds of essays to start writing and it’s hard to get the books for them because I’m in the middle of a Chinese-only country lol Ah well...
And how have you been?" | |
| 8 May 2008 | Liz ´the'leasel´ Verde | Ah, sounds much like me! My muses are stewing and they won’t settle on a story to work on! Darn multiple stories! Though I’m thinking that I want to try and finish up the rest of Roisin this week so at least I can have something other than my short short stories finished on my page. But who knows how well that will go ... although I did figure out how I was going to end it! Yay!
I still have to catch up on my comment prizes (cringe) I have no idea how old the oldest one is! Eeep!
Ouchie ... it must be hard studying in a country with a different language! I couldn’t do it.
I’ve been pretty good ... still recovering from my 13 final madness .... that was crazy and I wish I never had to do it again but that time will come all too soon in September! I’m going to try and enjoy my summer and freedom as much as possible! ^_^
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get at least close to finishing one of my novels this summer though from the way things are going right now it doesn’t look like it ... but I’m determined to keep trying! (must try and get my butt off of the computer and write!) haha. It’s so addicting being able to talk to everyone again on elfwood! I’ve missed you all so much! At first when I came back I didn’t feel like writing at all, even looking at my notebooks for each of my novels didn’t help, just couldn’t settle back into the swing of things. But wandering around elfwood reading and looking at artwork and also talking to you and my other friends has lit the fire again.
