A low moan came from the canyon as she struggled to her feet. Dark tears ran paths down her grimy face, caked with mud from the battle. Supporting her weight on her sword she half walked, half crawled up the ridge and lay on the top. Distant rumbles and high screams sounded from the west, but she did not heed the battle's call. The angel was too weary.

Her dark wings were stained black with blood and her skin was torn and rough. Matted sheets of hair fell about her face and soaked up the blood on the ground. An ear was tattered and a limb mangled and her mind past all conscious thought, yet she smiled.

The reddening sky above her seemed to give out comfort, and the rumbling ground to sing gently. Smoke drifted in the west as she gazed upward. Stars slowly began to appear as the sky blued and then blackened. Small animals ran over her limbs and insects lighted in her wounds only to die from her blood. But through all this she stayed still, eyes open and sightless, sword glimmering in her clenched hand.

The triple moons rose and cast a ghostly light over the wasteland. Keianna stirred, and rose. Her broken wings mended and spread out behind her and her leg healed. Running a hand through her tangled silver hair she turned westward where she could feel the innocent dying. A light seemed to shine from within her eyes, making her gaze truly terrible. Jaw set she began to walk, sword glowing softly in her hand ready to deal death to all who stood in her way.

Oooo.... so was this an evil angel? *oh yeah... first comment ritual dance around the circle of standing stones!*
anyway... if this was an angel of darkness... bravo... i like how you had it that she was cured when darkness set it... the way that described her after the battle of the day was so vivid i could clearly see her in my mind... and the ending was great too... but do i sense there is more of a story that you are still writing? is this only a prologue? And why... is the title of this the gatekeeper's vengeance? vengeance is like avenging someone you know that was killed or something... who was killed? Very great short story... but I think a tiny bit was left out. I would change nothing with what you have already written however! Wonderful wonderful wonderful job!

:-) Brittany Cali replies: "Thankiees! I'm not sure if she's evil or not....she just kinda kills stuff. And there probably is more to that story...once I come up with it ^^;;"

I agree with the previous comment in this being a wonderful story. I also agree that there should be a story behind this wonderful prologue. here's a hint, try copying and pasting this and place on your next blank sheet so that you can continue writing this wonderful story. Kudos to you on the wonderful job, happy writing!!!

:-) Brittany Cali replies: "There may be a story to this when I get a free moment. College tends not to like giving you free time though ^^"
