Chapter 1
The Discovery
A long day of school had wiped me
out. Thank god it was the last day at that dreadful prison at least for the
summer. Though I was tired when my friends called and wanted to know if I
wanted to go over to Lake Huron for a swim, I couldn’t refuse. Greg, Jarrett,
Kris and I were like fishes, we would swim until the water froze, not everyday
of course. Then we had the beach people of our group that would swim if it were
too hot, but played volley ball or tanned. Sam, Chris, and Asia were considered
part of that group; they came along to be around us. All of us were in the
water because of the insane heat of that day. While joking around in the water
we discovered a small cove with a chest inside it. We all began to dive
underwater to examine this mysterious chest. “Lets not just stand around and
look at it, help me bring it up,” Asia said. Just like Asia to take the
leadership position and get us all moving. We all then dived down and lugged
the chest up toward the beach; the thing weighed a ton even in the water. We
tossed the chest onto the beach. “It must be full of precious gems,” Sam said.
“No it’s full of gold and silver,” Asia said.
“ No it looks too old it must be the Mormon gold tablet,”
Chris said sarcastically.
“Maybe not the Mormons tablet but some of the lost scrolls
of an ancient race, like elves,” Jarrett said rubbing his chin.
“I don’t think so elf,” Greg said with a chuckle.
“Greg, cut it out,” I said, “Who has a crowbar at their
house?”
“I do,” Chris, said with a sigh, “You want me to go get it
don’t you?”
“Yes, Please and thank you,” I said. Chris got up on his
bike and began the ride home. I dialed a few numbers on my cell to gather the
rest of our “group”. Just before Chris returned a van pulled up and Allison,
Andrew, Danielle, Megan, Natalie and Matt jumped out jogging over to where we
were. They all were awe struck by our discovery, and the sight of the massive
chest that sat before them. I saw the puzzled look in their eyes knowing
exactly how they felt. Finally after what seemed like an hour Chris returned
with said item. We began to work on opening the chest, after close to an hour
we finally threw it open, revealing many multicolored coins with a smaller
chest on top of this vast treasure. I grabbed the small chest and opened it,
slowly. In the chest there was 11 amulets of all different colors and shapes,
each had the same inscription on the back, “This amulet shall transport you
away, after a day.” I pondered at what this might mean, but I became even more
intrigued by all of the multi colored coins in the chest. I picked up one of
each colored coin. The green coin had “10 NBC” as the inscription. The purplish
color had “100 NBC”, the blue had “1K”, and the red had “10K” on it.
“What the heck kind of money is this?” Matt asked.
“They seem to look like late roman era style coins,” Chris
our local history buff said, “But they seem not to be in Latin.”
“Meaning,” I said, “That they can’t be from Rome.”
“So where are they from?” Greg asked. I then decided to show
them the amulets I found.
“Look at these guys,” I said showing them.
“Wow, they’re beautiful,” Kris, said picking up a blue one.
“Sure are,” Asia said picking up a cloudy light blue one.
Sam grabbed a black amulet, Megan grabbed a bright red, Danielle grabbed a
forest green, Allison grabbed a very bright yellow almost a gold color, Chris
grabbed a blood red color, Greg grabbed an electric yellow color, Matt grabbed
a dark green, Andrew grabbed a green one with what looked like a fang carved
into it, Jarrett grabbed a steel gray color, Natalie grabbed up an emerald
green with a gold trim and I grabbed the last one an onyx stone with a small
blood red bat on the front.
“You know maybe we should bury this chest and dig it up
tomorrow when we have a way to carry it,” Greg said.
“Good idea Greg,” I said, “Did I just say that? Oh well lets
put it here.” I pointed to a spot on the beach that was right by the tree line.
So we began to dig, after another hour we were done. As celebration of the last
day of school Greg and Jarrett were staying the night over my house. Late that
evening we were laying in our sleeping bags discussing what the amulets colors
meant. We first discussed how we found it and where it came from. Then we
exchanged our ideas about the amulets directly. “Look,” I began, “Mine is onyx,
Jarrett’s is a steel gray color and Greg yours is a bright yellow. What does
that mean?”
“Well they were all assembled in that chest,” Jarrett said,
“It must mean something.”
“Jarrett you loser, this isn’t one of your mythical books
it’s real life,” Greg said, “Must be for different values.”
“For your information many mythical books are based off of
real historical events,” Jarrett argued.
“Yea so?” Greg asked.
“So it means there is some truth to them,” Jarrett said.
“Stop fighting, the point is we have them. It really doesn’t
matter what they mean if they mean anything,” I said looking at the clock
blinking 11:15, “Look it’s been a long day, lets go to sleep, we can talk in
the morning.”
“You’re right,” Greg said, “Lets go to sleep.” With that we
all drifted off to sleep, not realizing that we were headed for a crazy dream
or realty posing as a dream.
