This is a poem I wrote as part of a group project that James has gotten me involved in. It's actually the second project, but the first didn't fit with the theme of Elfwood.

In silence deep, in the blanket of night,
I stalk alone through the desert dunes.
A half-forgotten memory of a distant glory
I once took my place under the sun.

Relegated now to the kingdom of moonlight
I hunt alone, who once led the masses.
A queen dethroned, a mother forgotten
The shadows are now my solace.

And yet am I gone, so long as cats live?
My children, my progeny, spread far and wide.
Worship of them is obeisance to me,
And cats are not known for their meekness.

Every pet they receive, every adultaion or praise
Is homage to me, who am Queen of Cats
The food that you feed them, the milk in the dish
Are offerings and libations to my name.

How can a Goddess be gone and forgotten
When Her offspring are near gods themselves?
Children of man, this Queen reigns yet still
in the cats that you now call your 'pets'.

And I'm so glad you decided to join us in "The Project", Jenny... Great poem...

After almost two years, I’ve been considering resuscitating “The Project” -- if so, would you be interested? I expect it would again operate in the same fashion as the earlier editions, and I will attempt to gather a group consisting of former contributors as well as “newbies”… If this sounds like “fun” to you, email me (or just drop by my Wyverns shelf) to let me know!

Jenny, I've always been saddened by the DIRE lack of visitors to your quiet little corner of the woods... Oh, not sad for YOU, sad for THEM... They just don't know what they're missing!!! Hoping the fates have been kind to you, and hoping even more that I will hear from you soon...

I just wanted you to know that this poem is very lovely. Bast is the goddess that I talk and pray to. I even have a notebook that has only pic’s & poems & anything related to Bast that I find. I believe what you say about cats, I have 8. Would you mine if I keep a copy of this poem in my Bast notebook? I would love being able to read this often. You have done a very good job with this poem & I love it. Thanks for sharing it. Blessed Be!
