| This is a poem I wrote as part of a group project that James has gotten me involved in. It's actually the second project, but the first didn't fit with the theme of Elfwood. |
|
In silence deep, in the blanket of night,
I stalk alone through the desert dunes.
A half-forgotten memory of a distant glory
I once took my place under the sun.
Relegated now to the kingdom of moonlight
I hunt alone, who once led the masses.
A queen dethroned, a mother forgotten
The shadows are now my solace.
And yet am I gone, so long as cats live?
My children, my progeny, spread far and wide.
Worship of them is obeisance to me,
And cats are not known for their meekness.
Every pet they receive, every adultaion or praise
Is homage to me, who am Queen of Cats
The food that you feed them, the milk in the dish
Are offerings and libations to my name.
How can a Goddess be gone and forgotten
When Her offspring are near gods themselves?
Children of man, this Queen reigns yet still
in the cats that you now call your 'pets'.
