Aimee Major did a marvellous Beauty and the Beast picture entitled 'Refuge'. (It isn't in her gallery any more, but you can still see some other renditions of the characters.) It inspired this poem, a bit mushier than what I usually write ...

I never meant this light to cause you pain.
It was intended only to reflect
The brilliance that you brought into my realm;
A foolish Beast I am not to expect
That I would miss some fatal flaw. My vain

Desire was that this gift might overwhelm
Your wish to leave this place. But if the light
Reminds you overmuch of home, then let
That be a lesson to me. Make your flight
If 'tis your will.
                  But let me feel the calm

Within this Refuge for a moment yet;
If you let go, remain forever free,
And I shall be content not to forget
That for one moment you were here with me.

I think the content of this poem is very good - though I'm a bit confused; is it an Italian or Shakespearean sonnet? To me it seems you have five lines in the first stanza, and leaves the middle one unrhymed? I might be a bit tired today though, been studying for my history exams all day...

A great little poem... I've also seen Aimee's pic, and it definatly shaped my Beauty and the Beast story (in my gallery but whatever) a bit... I'm sure your poem will do the same. You've really gotten to the root of the matter here. Good job!

That is so sweet. The last line is the best.
