If you think about it, this would be the lonliest of all professions.

The Loneliest Profession

A child,

Lost and wandering.

A soul,

Without a mate.

He seeks,

To find another.

To ease,

His grueling fate.

Searching,

For a kindred soul.

Needing,

To end his seclusion.

He grasps,

At one he would hold dear.

But, alas,

Finds mere illusion.

Death stalks,

Not for evil deed.

Nor takes,

For malice purpose.

Death waits,

For the day to come,

To end,

The loneliest profession.

Oh sure. For sure you can't write poetry. Hey, your pants are on fire, Michelle. This is so sad, so dark. So beautiful and so good! Despite of what you say, you can be a poet! This is proof enough!Well, you have to agree that the last line is REALLY out of place. I just couldn't think of anything else! I glad you like it, though!

Wow! You are a great poet, despite what you might think. I think that last line makes sense (well, makes sense in the way that I understand the poem). I think you should explore your poetic side, but don't forget about your storytelling side!Rodney, you're just as strange as the rest of us.

If you post poems like this, you're going to have a REALLY difficult time convincing anyone that you're not a poet... Thanx again for participating in "The Project"...Oh, my pleasure. I assure you!! The only thing I don't like about this one is the last line. It seems so tacked on for no reason!

heyas... Me again... 2 Yes yes. I remember this work of art. Very nice. Very nice. 2 sad, and yet an understandably hopeless side to the whole outlook on Death. 2 great personification!

Great job. You really can be a poet, if you want to be. Your use of words was fantastic, but that's how you get to be a good writer. Never give up.

Such as sad and depressing poem. Such emotion and feeling in it. Most of my poems are sad and lonely as well. That's the only feeling I find it easiest to express on paper.

:-) Michelle Krantz replies: "This is easily the best poem I've ever written. Ok, so I've only written about 5 that weren't assignments. I think my past experiences had a lot to do with how I portrayed death. Or, it could have been the fact that this thing appeared in my head and told me to write it one night."

Hmm, the way this poem is writtenm reminds me of some poet I read not too long ago... Maybe Federico Garcia Lorka. I remember I liked his poems very much, even though I read them in Russian (it was a nice translation 12).
But in any case, it is a great poem, and I think you could be a poet easily if you but tried. 2

After almost two years, I’ve been considering resuscitating “The Project” -- if so, would you be interested? I expect it would again operate in the same fashion as the earlier editions, and I will attempt to gather a group consisting of former contributors as well as “newbies”… If this sounds like “fun” to you, email me (or just drop by my Wyverns shelf) to let me know!

I promise I won't force you to write POETRY, Mitch, but I would certainly enjoy having your company in any future editions of "The Project" - maybe this might even be a fine opportunity for a collaborative effort from you and your husband? Simply put, that would be "way cool"...
