"Sulfur Shores" by Carol Rose McFarlane

'In the Era of Oceans the wreckage of continental collisons had driven up fresh mountains and opened deep sutures in the seabeds-all as patient backdrop to the frantic buzz of life's adjustments to these immense constraints. Species rose and died because of minute tinings of their genetic texts. And all hurried succession and passionate ferment was a drama played out before the gaze of humanity-which had it's own agenda.' --Arthur C. Clarke & Gregory Benford, Beyond the Fall of Night, 1936

Can you hear the sunset,
Can you feel the currents,
Can you fly through mountains,
On a sulfur shore?

Can you drink the air?
Or eat the water on a star,
Where the plants are made of stone?
Maybe . . .
Just maybe . . .

If you were a creature of the stars,
You'd run through nebulae,
And dream of galaxies.

its seems that the comments are as short and to the point as the poem, so i'll try to keep the trend...ha! as if i can keep myself from rambling, ever...this is a gorgeous piece...really made me fly out there, among the stars...

Hello, Carol Rose! I enjoyed this one the best, perhaps, because it conveys your knowledge of Clarke. Keep up the good work!

Intriguing questions...hmmmmm.... Hello! I'm a poet myself, though I haven't written any poetry for awhile...gotta do something about that...I like the imagery here. I feel like some huge being transfering my curious gaze from one planet to another looking for answers to my questions. That's a lot to pack into so few sentences. Well done, Well done....
