SciFi and Fantasy Art: Kirin netsuke

This was my big Christmas project for my boyfriend. At first he seemed convinced that I had bought this somewhere, hehe. He's seen me draw, but the only artwork I've given him has been card art. I really really wanted to MAKE something for him.

I couldn't find the right brush I wanted for the darker dry-brush effects, so it didn't turn out the way I'd hoped. (AND I think I ruined my favorite inking brush...) I actually got so upset about it that I almost didn't give it to him, but his great response made me glad I did!

This kirin is my first detailed super sculpey work in 3-4 years. I looked at many pictures of kirin and chose my favorite features to create this guy. I wish I'd taken a full-on picture of his face - I love how that turned out.
