Hello again. ^_^ I was reading your issues about elves, and thought I'd comment!
As for the pointy ears... I'm not sure where that myth came from, but It's been around for quite a while, before Tolkien, I think. Elves can be picture in many different ways, but I think they almost always have pointy ears!
I do not, however, think that all elves have to be tall and long faced. It could also be different types of elves. Some tall, lean, and with angular faces; I have also seen very round looking faces with big round eyes. I'm a big fan of elves that are not-so-human, myself. The small, flighty creatures that seem like they belong more in the fairy realm. But, to each his own, and you're free to depict them however you wish! But...Not all people draw elves tall and lean. (Although...I do think that was Tolkiens description of HIS elves.)
