SciFi and Fantasy Art: Shaennyn (Sketch)

Here is the original sketch I did of Shaennyn, a character I play in an online game called The Turning Point. She's a dark elf, a drow. I based the pose off of the drawing by Tony DeTelizzi of the nereid in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition Monsterous Manual. Her foot seems a little bit malformed, though. I erased and redrew it time and time again, but could never seem to get it right, so I finally just left it like this and figured I'd fix it in Paint Shop Pro after I scanned it in. I honestly hate sketching on graph paper because it's a hassle to remove the lines after the drawing is scanned in, but more often than not that's the only paper type I have close at hand.

I think that the reaosn it looks off is your showing too much, it smees as if it should be tilted more horizontally if thats a good way to put it, so you see the pinky ring and middle toes and the rest are out of site... If that makes any sense? I hope it helps! Very nice!

:-) Amy A. Carlstrom replies: "That's a real good point. I've been working on my hands and feet (real trouble spots for me) and found a great picture online that's helped me out a lot -- a bunch of wire-modeled feet, at different angles. Practice, practice, practice. 2"

I really like it especially the pose but I think her face is a bit too ridged and as for the feet not bad I have two suggestions that might help you as far as not being able to draw a part of your picture A. look at your own feet and draw what you see B. Look at someone eles feet or a picture of feet (this works for alot of sketcing I like to use magazines to help touch up on drawign folds in clothes)C. drawa circle where th ankle would be and an ovalwhere the toes woud be then connect the two shapes with lines and erase etra marks Oh speaking of folds I just realized Shaennyn must iron her clothes really well because I dont see any folds other than that I think your very talented Keep up the good Art!

Yours Truly,
A. Demented Artist

:-) Amy A. Carlstrom replies: "*grin* Yeah yeah yeah, no folds in her clothes. Well, the pants were supposed to be skin tight, anyway. But you've got a point with the shirt. I've been getting better -- check out Eladeya, once I get her uploaded. That's my latest (as of this reply). I think I've gotten better at drawing clothing. Practice practice practice."

Her jaw sticks out funny other wise its good

:-) Amy A. Carlstrom replies: "Hmm, good point. She has a rather strong jaw in the sketch and it does look kind of strange. If you look at the colored version, maybe it's just me, but it looks like her chin isn't quite as... "out there" as it is in the sketch, here. LoL"
