SciFi and Fantasy Art: Jazzdragon Jam SessionThe Kansas City skyline in the background is a bit more obscured and abstracted than I'd originally wanted it to be, so the focus stays pretty much on the Jazzdragons. It doesn't hold up as well as I'd wanted it to when you get right up close to it; this one is best viewed from at least six feet away to get the faux distance effect to kick in properly. I think I should have either clarified the building shapes or blurred them out a little more. Hard to say. I have vague plans to do another Jam Session in KC, probably using the four weird pylons that are up by Bartle Hall.
At any rate, whether or not it was totally successful, this was a *really* fun experimental piece.
I painted the Kansas City Skyline first with a big, flat brush. I drew the Jazzdragons by themselves with paint pens and Polychromos pencils. Then I used a piece of mylar for the red trumpeteer's outstretched wing. I colored on it with metallic paint markers. I strung the bass viol with silver thread (which unfortunately does not show up well here). Finally, I mounted the Jazzdragons on the KC base with a couple of rolls worth of mounting tape. | |
