SciFi and Fantasy Art: En Masse (A crowd shot)

Basically, a whole bunch of my 3-D polymer clay critters. Um.. the guy in the front is one of the more recent additions. He's seated on a mirror, and is an absolutely adorable little dragon. There's also a wizard, a witch, a bunny that Beatrix Potter would be proud of, several angel bears, um... an ent (tree-person)... Sorry once again for my lacking description. This is an older piece/collection, and they are not painted, the color comes from the clay itself.

Awww! Now this is fabulous. 2 I'd love to be able to create this sort of work. It would be difficult to pick a favorite from among them. They're all so beautifully crafted and designed, plus carefully painted. This is creativity at its best. You should be proud. 2

nail varnish (or polish as people across the pond call it) seems to be a popular thing for painting. One friend painted her 'phone with it another painted a plastic airline fork with red nail varnish to complete her 'devil' costume for halloween.

:-) Shara E. Donohue replies: "It's a great medium! It's created to strengthen nails, and so adds strength to the sculptures. It also gives a high-gloss finish that's otherwise difficult to attain."

*Arrggghhhh!* What I wouldn't give to be able to work that small! Compared to these, my dragons are *huge!* Anyway... What kind of fingernail polish are you using on these? The one time I tried to use fingernail polish on polymer clay, the sculputre *melted* under it! So these days I use a good varathane varnish on my sculptures and bake it one last time at 265degrees for 10 minutes. No stroke marks, and the finished piece is *very* shiny!

This seems the perfect place to tell you how much I admire all your clay critter creations. Wonderful, whimsical work! The colors are sumptuous, and the poses sublime. Thank you for sharing them with us. They are a joy!
Have you ever considered preparing a polyclay tutorial for FARP? I expect it would be most welcome. Great job on your critters! 12
