Alrighty. I best be giving a background story on this one. This is a story written from the characters of Trench Coats and Love Notes by Gloria 'the Bug' Bowden, who has given me permission to post my random stories. This particular tale came at the end of an email I wrote not long ago, forgot about, and found while cleaning files out. I had been looking at wedding dresses online, something random I really like to do from time to time, and found a great website. I sent it to Gloria-la and others, describing how beautiful the dresses were. I ended with the words "They're gorgeous!" and, of course, was reminded of Swell Well, one of the characters and pretty soon I found myself writing this little tidbit. Then my train of thought chugged on to Swellisto: the Swell Well/Callisto possibility, which Hut...er...Gloria really doesn't like and Callisto, Rubix and I think sounds funny, quirky, and all around awesome. The dialog used here in the flashback isn't part of the story. It was something random that came out of my blonde brain. If you haven't read Trench Coats and Love Notes, I really feel bad for you, you really shouldn't read this for there are a couple of spoiler-ish moments (besides, you wouldn't get what was going on, a normal thing for people like me anyway), and you should check it out here:http://www.elfwood.com/~gbowden2/Trench-Coats-and-Love-Notes-Part-I.3388054.html(that's part I)I got tired of typing full names, so I abbreviate most of the time with SW for Swell Well, Slip for Glass Slipper, Ru for Rubix, Hut for Cardboard Hut, Cal for Callisto, and Ch for Chainlink. And I should mention that the Let Me Be Your Wings lyrics are from a song with the same title from Thumbelina. Enjoy, friends!
And it just keeps getting crazier and crazier, eh?
Two items of note: I quote Dylan Thomas' famous 'Do not go gentle into that good night.' The character Dark Horse says it. It's in italics. I'm not claiming it as mine, but it is old, therefore public domain. Item number two -- I didn't like how Chainlink summoned his winged horse before. I changed it. Now they use magic whistles shaped like wings.
Yeah, this next part gets a little abstract. I hope I don't disturb and/or offend anyone. Jamuy is Quechua for 'come' (at least I think it is. My knowledge of that language is restricted to what I can find on the internet.) Supay is, I think, the Incan god of the underworld, and a high demon in my story, the source of chaomancy, aka shadow magic. :P
Argh. I hated having to split this up. Sorry if I chose all the worst places. It was hard to find good stopping points. Part XI is the result of me sitting down and saying 'I'm going to finish this story by Christmas, dang it. And I'm gonna do it in twelve parts!' --and then working hours and hours on it nonstop. By the by: ADB stands for Agency Data Base. I have a request for my Mod: If there's anything rejectable about this section or any other of Part XI, please reject all the sections after it as well, so I can fix the problem and make sure my readers only get their stuff in order. It wouldn't work to have C before A or D before B, you know what I mean? Thanks. Enjoy. :)
And so we come to the falling action from the climaxing of Part VI. Here we meet two of my favorite characters; Rook and Hoodwink. :) Hmm hmm hmm, delightful.
Yay; it's the longest installment of Trench Coats ever! I had to split it into FOUR PARTS! :D I feel special. What's about to happen will disturb you. It disturbed me.
Written while suffering from horrible fever, so... Samuel Cunning and Sierr, along with the plot, made up as I wrote. Maybe I´ll continue it someday. Comments appreciated.
Just a warning, this story is plotless. It was my second attempt at writing. It basically is a bunch of random scenes and lines that I had swarming in my head fused together into a random code name story...thing. The characters and such come from Glo 'the Bug' Bowden's Trench Coats and Love Notes. Check it out! http://www.elfwood.com/libr/g/b/gbowden2/trench_coats_and_love_notes01.htm.html Indeed, I do have her permission to post. This story was going to have the plot: the coolest team of secret agents ever (you better be thinking of BLT...or else!) get code names! Maybe you can still see that happening. And I just realized that it doesn't really end. Anyway, have fun! Oh! And believe it or not, I have permission to post from the infamous Hut, namely Glo 'the Bug' Bowden herself!
This story started out as a bit of a gag. My friends and I had long pretended to be secret agents -- and we had many IM conversation battles with these goofy arch-nemisises...nemisees?-- and so when I wrote this for them as a Christmas present my only goal was to capture our IM conversations in a story and the whole thing was only building up to this fight scene. I kind of let the story take its own course, until a turning point here in part II when I suddenly had a brainwave for how I could make the story way more exciting. When I was writing it I gave it in increments to my friends, so as a matter of principle I didn't go back and add any details to previous parts of the story when I discovered that certain things needed to be established. What you see here is a very rough copy of Trench Coats and Love Notes, one that I may one day go through and fix. But for now I hope that, rough as it is, it can still bring a little pleasure to you as my readers. It gets more coherent as the parts progress, I promise. There are some French ballet terms in there, so I'll define them. Eh hem. Arabesque - One of the basic poses in ballet, arabesque takes its name from a form of Moorish ornament. Chaine - (I have just discovered that I've been spelling this wrong. It's full of accents, and has one less N.) Chains, links: a series of rapid turns on the points or demi-pointes done in a straight line or in a circle. Pirouette - Whirl or spin. A complete turn of the body on one foot, on point or demi-pointe. Sous-sus - Below-above; a term used to describe a very tight 5th position on demi-pointe. Oh, and there are some quotes from Shakespeare in there that I can't take credit for, though they are public domain. -- they're from the last scene of Hamlet. Have I mentioned that these supervillains, goofy as they are, have some class? Not much, but some.
And it came to pass that Gloria finished and posted Part XII. And there was much rejoicing, yea verily, and the Gloria collapsed in her triumphal... HOLD ON! I didn't actually finish Trench Coats in this section, so no collapsing in triumphal glory for me. --yes folks, there's going to be a Part XIII...because Part XII was getting WAY too long, and I'd already missed my Christmas deadline by about ten days. Just to warn you; all that stuff I say about keeping my writing PG? Well...here's a disclaimer, it just became PG-13. Part 12 is a bit more on the violent side. And also quite a bit steamier (lots of kissing. LOOOOTS of kissing. And not just kissing; PASSIONATE kissing. Yes...nothing worse than that though.) And by the way, there's one point in here where I put something in parenthesis, when I haven't done it (I don't think) at any other point in the story. This is because when I write for my friends I like to put footnotes, but i had to take them out for elfwood. Usually I can just put the footnote in the description, but eh...that one didn't fit. In fact, I could probably stick it in as an actual sentence. It's just a fun, and not that important, detail.Speaking of fun details, did you know that red diamonds are the most rare form of diamond in the world? --That's another footnote reference I took out of this section.
It's a good thing Elfwood is allowing larger portions or I wouldn't be able to fit this all on one ticket. I still tried to keep it all more bite-sized; this section is the longest. Um...hm...what to say. As of right now I have the ending planned out and know pretty precisely what I want to happen (I was going to try and squash it all into this part, but it was getting just too dang long), but I have no clue when I'll find time to write it. I'm finally starting up college, and I'm uber excited, but that means less me time, so...eh, we'll see. I predict that Part XIII will be in two to three sections, but I tend to always write more, rather than less. Oh...there's a quote from Lord Byron in here. She Walks in Beauty of the Night. Needless to say, Bryon's old. -tis public domain.
Oh no! Will Ru, Dark, and Slip be able to save Hut? Alright, the lyrics in there are from the song 'Don't Give Up' by Josh Groban...or should we say, Agent Groban? --we haven't really decided whether it's the real Josh Groban or someone who looks enough like him and more importantly sounds enough like him that he earned the name at training camp. --seems weird that he'd go by his own last name, so I'm thinkin' it's more the latter.
I'M NOT SUICIDAL, I PROMISE! Wow...sorry; I had some pretty worried friends after this. :S Anyway, so the story continues. I really would have rather not split it, since I think the story builds better without a break there, but hey, gotta make it fit the size limit, so there we go. P.S. I'm sorry if I went a bit overboard with detail on the end. I started having a wee bit too much fun describing stuff. ^_^'
Masquerade! Paper faces on Parade! Maasqueraaaaade. (Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera) Yes, this is where it gets exciting. I wrote this part mostly inspired by music by Within Temptation. The them for part 8 is definately their song Angels.
Oh...yeah. The usual request of the mods. If any part of this story is considered ill-fit for elfwood for some reason or another, please reject all consecutive parts so I can fix the problem and so my readers won't have holes in their story. Thanks much!
This is an unfinished prologue to the comic strip or anime video, still unsure of what I'm going to do with it and what the title is going to be and still in production of it. Most likely going to be a comic strip. It's about AI attempting to exterminate humans on Earth and the humans escape to the moon to rebuild civilization. Some of the humans get left behind and build underground civilizations based upon old magical beliefs, some humans are mutated by a virus released by the AI, some humans escape to the moon and rely on technological advances to survive all the while encountering new alien races.
I finally did it! And I finished at 12:15 am on December 26th! Only 15 minutes after my goal~ ...ok, technically I edited and added a new scene after I got up that morning... But anyway, the story's done, and here it is for your viewing pleasure. Repeat quotes from Faustus in here. Public domain - they are italicized. O lente lente, currite noctis equi means 'Oh slowly, slowly run you horses of the night.' La fraternidad de caos means 'The Brotherhood of Chaos' in Spanish. ,Dasvedanya, chestniy vraag, means 'Goodbye honorable enemy' in Russian. And I think that covers most of the translations. Enjoy. Be gentle. I intend to edit this manuscript without mercy soon, but for now I'd like to feel good about it. I probably won't come back to working on it for a few months. My mind needs a break from Trench Coats before I attempt to rework it...and believe me, the revision project will probably take about as long as writing the darn thing. In the future you can look forward to an epilogue...I think...if it doesn't morph into a sequel. Heh. Anyway. Enjoy. And please ignore some of the Deus ex Machina...it's stuff I intend to tie in better (like Dark Horse's hat) in the...prologue? prequel? Thing that will replace Parts I-III? Yeah...
And it came to pass that Gloria posted the next installment, yea verily, and there was much rejoicing. Please enjoy. The next installment will be the last for real this time. No I'm serious! Why doesn't anyone believe me? O_- Btw, Da means Yes, and Nyit means No in Russian. THe other translations are footnoted, but I'm too lazy to fix the formatting so it looks better. :P
This is perhaps my favorite part of Trench Coats so far as I have writen. (Well, this and Part IIX, which I have just finished.) It's a bit longer than the rest, but I hope it has you all so captivated that you won't notice. *wink* In fact, it's so long that I had to split it into two parts to upload it! :-S The BLT reference is because these three friends and I formed a singing group called BLT. -- it's kind of what drew us together. I want to thank the mods for featuring this story. But before you read it you should probably go back and read the other parts. This part of all of them is full of spoilers and will destroy the suspense of the story if you start here! Oh, and if you decide to read, please comment. I like to know what you think, even if it's as short as 'I love it!' 'I hate it!' 'Give me cookies!'
