A Fairy Tale of New York - Part 4

Sean Daily

My first story from my new roleplaying system! I call it Witchgun, and it's set in New York City in 1936, in an alternate timeline where vampire bats (called chiroptim) and humans have evolved side by side. It's partly a reaction to modern depictions of vampires, which are ultra-hip, ultra-stylish, ultra-powerful and ultra-amoral. Characters like that just stick in my craw. I wanted vampires that had real problems - family, jobs, paying the bills, raising the kids, enduring prejudice - and who weren't immortal and who weren't all powerful. This is the fight in the Benthic Hall. Ack! I can't stand the suspense!

Sebastian and Jacob are joined by two allies. One makes a big impression - in the Benthic Hall. The other leaves our heroes nonplussed.

Brother of Rat

Sean Daily

One of the most popular bar songs in Tayassam, a chiroptim ghetto in New York City and the scene of my upcoming roleplaying system. It's like 'A Fairy Tale of New York' to chiroptim. Imagine the guys singing one chorus, then the ladies, then everyone all together in the final chorus.

The title, of course, is from the Pogues song of the same name, which is of course from the J.P. Donleavy novel of the same name. This song was a favorite of one of my friends, and you'll see how appropriate it is as you read.

Untie My Wings: Chapter 2 - Beyond the Walls

Sophie Hansen

The Conclave

Lianne Ratzersdorfer

I'm a real nature lover and I hate discrimination against animals, especially when its source is in ridiculous superstitions. So then I thought, why not hold a meeting of all (well, some of) the animal outcasts? See what they make of it all. I considered writing this in story form, then went for poetry. Originally it was supposed to be serious, but the rhyme-scheme and argumentations made it too humorous to keep it that way (and I'm not one to stop a flow of creativity for a mere thing such as that!)

Untie My Wings: Chapter 4 - Boiling Point

Sophie Hansen

Alleah comes to terms with her condition, and Vlad attempts to thwart a slave uprising by poisoning them.

The Bat

Andrew Burfield

This began it all. Written when I was eight, this is the first connected, narrative story I remember writing. I thought it might be a bit of a laugh to see where I came from. You'll note the descriptors, perhaps foreshadowing of my trademark use of description now.

Soul - Prologue

Untie my Wings: Chapter 1 - Childhood Memories

The Halfblood (Chapter One)

T. Smith

Not a very creative title, I know. This is sort of just a beginning I'm planning on developing into a story eventually. It's hard to give it a summary though. Basically, there's something of a war going on about a century into the future of our world. There are new creatures, monsters, etc. A girl is fighting with the resistance against a tyrant that has brought Man to its knees, and a humanoid creature most would call a monster searches in painful hope for a place to belong, outcast from even his own kind because of his mixed blood. Saved from otherwise certain death by this girl and her friends, he faces the option of either helping them, which goes against nearly every rule of his kind, or spending the rest of his life barely surviving on the edges of society. What no one knows is that his decision will affect the future of humanity, and ultimately, the world. Choose wisely, young one.
