The Halfling King

Theodore Stimac

Gus comes home with an interesting bit of news for his family. This story came about after I finished writing my first novel and was all kinds of burned out. I asked some friends what they'd like me to write a story about. My cousin said: a Halfling named Gus. This is what he ended up with. Takes place within the Kith Universe.

Garotte's Run Chapter 1

Douglas Williams

This is a story set in a D&D campaign world that we have been playing for over two years. The setting is a land run by the evil god Hextor. His clerics and their Army called The Fist have ruled for 900 years. Although evil they have brought peace to the land and the population has accepted a loss of their freedom in exchange for the safety the clerics provide. All other gods and those races that would stand against Hextor have been removed. The Elves have been enslaved and blamed for the geological tragedy that allowed the Clerics of Hextor to take over. Gnomes have disappeared from the land, destroyed by a mysterious plague. All clerics of the good gods have been removed, blamed for allowing the elves to bring the decimation upon the land. But, there are a few hero who know the truth. Who fight to free the elves and bring freedom and goodness back to the land. Anson Ral-North, a fighter with a royal background. Gabriel and Tar’nowen, free elves from the protected lands of the Flame Wood. Milo, a magical Halfling with a craving for the finer things in life, and Sova, a free spirited Halfling with light fingers and a curious heart. These unlikely heroes have come together to find the keys to the past to unlock the freedom of a land for the future.

Door of the Ancients - Chapter One

Andrew Rice

Chapter one brings us to the main character. It also gives us a little bit of information as to his personality, where he is from, and the like. Furthermore, Faux returns. Here are the two footnotes I have included in the story so that I am not hassled about them: (1)Krux - A unit of measurment roughly equivalent to three miles. However, it is also used as hyperbole. For example, 'That's got to be at least a krux away!' (2)Faerux - A title of the current lord of the Magic Guild. When one is vowed in as the lord, they must take the title of 'Faerux' as well as a name. *Hint* Faux isn't his real name.

Chapter One

Candace Young

Chapter One of a story that started out as a 'just for fun' thing.

The Cyclops' Castle

Nicole McCurry

This story was inspired by watching my then one-year-old playing at the library. It was given to various family members as a christmas present, and was well recieved. The characters involved, mainly the married couple, are characters from my others works in the Ecadian Chronicles series, published through Publish America (regrettably). There are some known issues. I use the term Romans. They look and act like earth Romans. This is because I am borrowing the opinion of some channelers that most Earth culture, especially caucasian culture, originated elsewhere in the galaxy, and many different planets have similar traits. Whether or not I actually believe this, I thought it was really interesting. Secondly, I know the halfling's accent is nearly indeciferable. My husband has the same problem. I refer you to Mark Twain, and many of his novels with southern characters, and to Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men. Just deal with it or stop reading.

Prompt Writing 3

Keya Paul

Just a quick, last-minute story for a contest over at Elftown. I wasn't very good at writing short stories back then, so the next few short stories I post will be a lot better.
