She goes by many names: Artemisia absinthium, Artemisia, Absinthe, Wormwood, or as she prefers: Poison. Do not be fooled by her smile, do not be tempted by her drink. Stay away from this woman of the woods. My take on the ever-popular "green faerie". Of course, she is more than just the distilled drink. She is also the poisonous plant itself! Poison is not to be trusted, in any form. My favorite part of this picture: her left eye. Though the glass comes in at a close second. Ironically I have no wineglasses in my apartment, but as I was drawing this piece I was invited out to dinner at a restaurant that did! Throughout the meal I was able to study one and how the light glances off it. Talk about luck! ...And yes, I bring paper and pens/pencils with me everywhere for sketching that which catches my eye. Drawn and colored in April 2007. Again, it took about a week. Blending skin takes forever... Colored pencils, green gel pens and green ballpoint pen. I wanted a green theme, so I didn't use my normal outlines of black ink (the green ballpoint took its place). Instead, black was only used for her pupils.
