October 13, 2004. India ink and water applied with a rather large calligraphy brush on some sort of stiff, bristol-like paper that has been sitting in a box in my basement for at least 10 years and possibly longer.
So here's the final version, done rather painstakingly over 45 minutes or so (I had to wait for each layer of ink to dry before adding the next). I'm rather proud of this one. The right wing looks cut off because I kinda misjudged the distance between the body and the edge of the paper. Oops.
Now that I look at it again, it's really more of a feathered serpent than a phoenix, isn't it?
