January 12, 2005. First I drew it in pencil, then I inked it in black felt-tip pen, and then I erased the pencil; all this took place on regular old printer paper.
It's baaaaaaack! This is the same feathered serpent thing as in 'Notebook Sketches 1' and 'Black Phoenix Rising', as well as in a billion other tiny sketches I've done in various media over the past six months or so. I've named him Black Phoenix, because I thought he was a phoenix at first and I've only ever drawn him in black and white. This time I drew him in what seems to be my natural style--long, flowing lines made with very quick movements of my hand. It's the technique that my hand, eyes and brain all seem to like the most. (In fact, those wings are the first thing I draw whenever I pick up a pencil or pen. It's like some sort of creepy reflex.)
Update (May 7 2005): There's a color CG version of this pic in the works, courtesy of my brand new (as of March 3) WACOM TABLET YAAAAAAYYYY!!!
