This is my fiancee and I wearing the masks Water and Metal for a benefit show called 'Elements' down in Seattle. Both masks are built out of styrofoam, cardboard, and wire, with plaster gauze wrap and smooth plaster on them, then painted with various acrylics. The hardest part was all of the frills and whiskers, which kept wilting as they got wet from the plaster. The barbels (whiskers) on Water are actually just fake dreadlocks, and all of the fuzz on both masks are maribou feather boas hot glued on. They really completed the masks. Although they were both originally intended to be dragons, mine came out looking more like a Heaven Dog or a lion, which is fine, since it's still asian influenced. I really like how the masks compliment each other, and wish I would have had more time to do more detail work on them. Since the party, Metal is hanging on my wall, and Water fell off, suffering almost irreperable damages. I'm not sure if I'm up to fixing it or not, so at least this picture stays as a memory of what it was!
