This was drawn using a live model... with, of course, a few changes of expression. I'm rather proud... the legs and feet are perhaps the best (and possibly only) I've drawn so far.Regardless that, however, this image was a study in not only facial, but also bodily expression. It's meant to convey a sense of depression and anger... but above all, and effort to appear cheerful for the benefit of others. How many times have you had to wear such a mask? One final note, for those who care, this image does have a background. It is the blackness behind her. Let me explain. She is sitting on a small rocky protrusion within the dead of night. A light has caught her from the side, highlighting her features, but it does not reach into the darkness beyond, where a large valley stretches below a mountain... ...Anyway, I hope that explains the apparent lack of scenery. :)Update: I've altered the picture with Paint Shop Pro, so it is smooth, as skin should be. I've also added some sort of a background, though those of you who may find it hard to believe I actually drew this, will probably consider it makes it more of a photograph. Either way though, you can still see the original picture here. I seem to have misplaced the cliff.
