The Goddess Figurehead

This is the figurehead on the prow of a ship. The captain had a dream one night where Simana, the goddess of the sea, visited him and promised his ship safety on all its voyages. The next day, he ordered a new figurehead to be made in her likeness and he rechristened the ship 'The Fodalea Mother' which is a nickname for the goddess. The sailors, a superstitious and nervous bunch, don't like the figurehead. They say her skin is too soft to be wood and at times, she seems to glow. However, in the ship's many years at sea, never once has run into serious harm.

As with most of my work, this is just a start. I never seem to finish my stories. *smiles*

The Builder and the King

I was experimenting with characterization and speech and this was the result. I couldn't decide if the character was guilty or not, and I think that comes through in the writing.
