Slain Demon

Details: This is my third ever scratch art piece (the second ever being the dragon one), and again, one of the first pictures I did that made use of such a high contrast. No sketching it out first, no referance picture. This I did my high school art class with some extra scratch paper, because I was already done with my other assignments. (Art class was one of the only classes I was ahead in, or even on time for that matter; what can I say? I didn't mind doing my assignments, and even doing extra at home ;) .) Pretty happy with how it turned out. Kind of dissapointed that the shading detials on the wrapped handle, the gem in the middle of the hilt, and the cross on the end of it didn't show up that well...Medium: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of scratchboard, with the red blood added in Photoshop.Time: About an hour and a half? (less than an hour a day over two days in my art class)Inspiration: I was trying to think of something else that would make effective use of the black and white, and I came up with bone. The actual scene just kind of came together as I went along.Date: Early 2003No real back story for this guy... Nevermind, I just deleted what I was going to write, and here is the story that poped into my head just now:A band of holy men; a couple paladins, a righteous vigilante, a few zelots, and a monk live on the outskirts of civilization, because some of the main towns are corrupted, and it's easier for them to live out there. They are going somwhere, and are ambushed by some demons who have recently come out of a portal in a nearby cave. They kill them all, and then go into the cave to slay the rest of the demons, and close the portal. The portal is already closed for some reason, and they encounter some vicious demons, and slay them all. The battle is so fierce that more than half their gear is damaged or destroyed, and the righteous vigilante, (who is the most skilled) is so shaken up by killing the last demon, (which was also the most powerful) he leaves his sword behind. The whole crew is all together shaken up, and they return home forgetting where they were ever going in the first place. The body rots within the cave, and the sword is yet to be discovered.(I suppose if the whole body rots, the blood would be dark brownish red, and almost completely gone, but I thought a deep red just looked so cool.)
