Velocity Comics (a shop in Richmond) held a contest, 'Draw The Watchmen!' and I figured what the heck. So here's Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl and The Comedian from DC Comic's 'The Watchmen,' except well.. rather female. :P My basic theory/guide to doing fanart: 1) If you've a cast/multiple characters to choose from, don't go with the most popular. Because that's what most everyone else will do. Your work will stand out more this way.2) Come up with a unique way of portraying your subjects. How is such-and-such normally portrayed? We don't need yet another fan art of X badass standing around looking ... badass.3) Draw in your own style, or a partial hybrid of. Some of the best fan art I've ever seen has been in the artist's native style; not in the style of its souce. Painter X, 2007.
