Inspired by class presentations of Greek myths. One group did a presentation entitled 'How 'bout dem apples?' about the beginning of the Trojan war. Long story short(er), all of the gods were invited to a wedding feast except for Eris, goddess of Strife. Very upset, she tossed one of her Apples of Discord in amongst the gathered guests, to which was attached a note, 'For the Fairest.' Athena (Minerva), Hera (Juno), and Aphrodite (Venus) all thought that they themselves were the most beautiful, and they asked Zeus (Jupiter) to choose which should get the apple. Zeus knew what would each would do to him if he didn't choose her, so he refused to decide. The three goddess then traveled to where Paris, a prince of Troy, was tending to sheep. They asked him to give it to the one he thought most beautiful. Each offered him great rewards, but Aphrodite's offer, that his bride would be the most beautiful woman in the world, was most tempting. So, Paris gave her the apple and they went to claim his prize. The two of them stole Helen of Sparta away from her real husband, and Athena and Hera were allies of Sparta when said husband went to get Helen back.
