This was my Christmas present to my grandmother last year. She asked me to draw her a picture and frame it for Christmas, and so I did. She wanted something that had to do with faeries, so I happily obliged. *just so happens to be someone who was obsessed with faeries when she was a little girl* This was not originally intended to be this way. My original idea was to draw a picure of a faery falling through space, based off of this pose: http://www.elfwood.com/art/g/r/gretah/falling.jpg.html (I've been in love with it for just about forever.) But unfortunately I lost it just when I was about to ink it >_>. This picture, however, was a little doodle I started in lunch one day. My friend Alison wanted me to draw something, so I started with the intention of drawing two characters from a comic I used to collaborate on, Electra and Sprite, together. However, I couldn't put anything in front of Electra's face. Just going with it, I turned the head into a body, and the body into a random schoolgirl. It was about a little bit after I inked her that I lost the falling faery. So as a last-ditch effort, I decided to spiff this one up. It worked. ^^ It took me all day, but whatever. It's going to make Nana happy, and that's all I want. I employed several different elements in this picture. One was lighting. If you look at the girl's face you'll see that the faery is casting a glow. That was really easy, but I was being very risky doing something like that. Another element is the fact that this is happening in a "night" scene. I'm used to daytime lighting, but this wasn't that different. Just the sky. The water was an interesting aspect to color. I was really nervous about it, but I'm actually pretty happy with the outcome. Obviously, I've gotten more used to those techniques since then. (It's been almost a year xD.) But it was really cool at the time. I had lots of fun with it. Find it on deviantART at http://bibis-mcbryde.deviantart.com/art/Faeries-in-the-Night-45311139. Enjoy!
