The soldier on the right is a basic infantrymen for the NIJA (New Imperial Japanese Army). He wears the colors of his Daimyo (the blue) and the colors of the samurai family he is under (the orange). Because these soldiers are not from families with samurai or daimyo status, they are not permitted to wear there own family colors. The US equivalent of the ranks of these soldiers are from Private to Sergeant Major. The guy on the left is a Samurai (US equivalent in rank from 2nd Lt. to Major). The Samurai wears the colors of the Daimyo (blue, in this case) and there family colors are permitted to be displayed on there weaponry (the orange). With the new Imperial govt. of Japan the on people born into samurai families can become officers, and all other classes must be recruited by said families as standard infantrymen. Both soldiers must display the Red Sun in the middle of their chest, the symbol of Japan and the color Emperor.
