This is part of an art trade with Wendy A. Lawson the manager of Bifrost. She is going to color one of my dragon letters (“Z” I believe), so I have done a color version of one of her drawings.
Wendy has some very cool looking stained glass drawings, as well as a descriptions of how she made them. Anyhow, she inspired me to try it out for myself.
I started off with her original black and white line drawing for the Toe Tickler (click on the link to see the original), then I went over all of the lines and separated it into sections for the divided glass look that stained glass has. Since it is an underwater themed drawing I thought I’d go with a beach theme for the border, complete with starfish, shells, and the flotation rings that lifeguards use.
Although Wendy uses Paint Shop Pro 8 for her stained glass drawings, I did mine with Photoshop CS, since I’m more comfortable with that program. I used a gradient fill for each section, but when I was done coloring it in I wasn’t really happy with how it turned out. So I went back over each part of it using a light filter to give it more of the glowey stained glass look I wanted. After that I added a bit of texture and I was done! I’m really happy with how this turned out.
