Reflections (image 2)

My artworks, "Reflections" (image 1 and 2), are part of a series I did for my year 12 final artworks..They are two oil paintings that come together to make one artwork. Image 1 of Reflections is a self portrait of myself and horse, reflecting how I am today ie, arian in looks, young, female, caucasian ect. Image 2 of Reflections is the unseen side of myself, like looking into a mirror and seeing other aspects that make up who you are. In image 2, I am American Indian, which reflects my ethnic bloodlines. Looking at me today, you could not see that heritage, even if you tried really hard haha! The point of Reflections is to make the viewer question how differently their lives would be if they looked different, the importance of how one is seen by others and how every person is made unique by the millions of attributes that make them who they are.Painted at age 17 (2011), with oils on canvas using only a palatte knife. Each painting took around 3 weeks to complete with various daily working hours. The colours that have been used are also complimentary to each other. The colours give the paintings a fantasy appeal despite my efforts at semi-realism, showing how even though the "two girls" are based on self-portraiture, the ideas behind them are based on fantasy taken from my views and ideas..20" by 20"
