This drawing depicts a member of the Reknyvi guard of the city of Durynyadi. The Reknyvi Guard was established in the year 236 by Guuntharl Reknyvios, in order to defend the city from the waves of attacks and invasions launched by the hobgoblin Grothammer and Loragov clans. the Loragov clan actually held the city for three weeks in the winter of 236 before being driven out by the newly-formed Reknyvi Guard. this Guardsman wears a long padded coat to help absorb the impact of blows and keep out the cold and rain of the Torozian winter. he wears a massive decagonal gorget to protect his neck and a matching wid-brimmed helmet with cheek-pieces and the two feather crest indicating his rank as a regular Guardsman. His shield bears a blackbird clutching a branch, superimposed on the religious symbol of an angular figure-eight with two six-pointed stars. the bird with the branch is the mark of the city, while the religious symbols indicate the city's strong belief in the church of Halmassan. he carries substantial polearm known as a progriva. on his broad belt he wears small dagger and on his sword belt he wears a short, broad sword of slab-and-tang hilt construsction. his boots are spattered with slush and mud. in combat he might wear the shield across his back to facilitate agile two-handed use of his progriva, or he may use the specially designed grips and straps on the shield that allow him to wear it on his left arm whilst still being able to use his polearm with both hands.
