Death of Narnia

You believed in this place. It was your beginning and end, your past and your future, your pride and your everlasting joy.Now it is dying. The land which seemed so firm beneath your feet is now crazed and striated with lies. The air which gave strength to failing limbs echoes with the splintering of timber, the creak and snap of ancient bonds, callously broken. Everything certain, is now questioned. Everything cherished, is now trodden underfoot. Everything enduring, now declines. Even your own honour is lost to you, your bravery lost to cowardice, your wisdom submerged in rashness. There is no hope of reversal. There is no regaining what we have lost. There is no going back. There is only going on, into the gathering dusk, into the inevitability of pain, into the certainty of the end.------------------------------------------For the backstory, read C.S. Lewis, "The Last Battle", with particular reference to the beginning of Chapter Three. I have talked up the despair more than the author did, as he was writing for children, but the situation as he unfolds it is every bit as wretched as I describe. There seems to be no hope.Pencil on cartridge paper, then Serif PhotoPlus
