Definitely a she. When people draw hippocampuses, they often either forget to give them a belly at all, or give them two, or one very long one like a snake. I like them compact, so they still look like a horse and as if they have the power to swim at speed. I create the body shape by drawing a big oval belly; forward of the belly the shoulders are attached like those of a horse, aft of it the tail is attached like that of a dolphin. Then I smooth it off to create the sleek body shape. That way it has plenty of room for its innards. Seaweed takes a lot of digesting. I like floaty hair and floaty fins. And did I mention I like scales? Fibre-tipped drawing pen on cartridge paper.
